Need something to help you with your productivity?
Wish you had an application to solve a specific problem?
Get this place on your radar screen.
Make a visit to Google’s Application Marketplace, their newly launched app store for business. There you will find about 50 or so apps (many are free) and you just know there will be an unlimited number of future apps to come. With developers in the mix, many of these apps will be third-party, which is always a good thing because the very nature of this means that competition for really great apps will be in place.
The idea is to bring both the developers and users of apps together in one place, a nice benefit for each side.
Of course, I went snooping around in there and found costs ranging from $50 to a couple of hundred bucks annually, but there are many freebies as well. This is a software-as-a-service approach, hence the annual fees. My guess is that when some of these paid versions fail to move, they will find themselves on the freebie shelf also.
But this is a good concept and will surely grow to something massive if Google has their way, and they usually do.
On the free shelf I found quite a few things of interest and will show just a couple below.
This app is not new but thought I would list it here in case you have somehow missed it.
OffiSync integrates Microsoft Office with Google Apps. I do not need to tell you how beneficial this is, but will point out that you can save your documents online from within the Office Suite.
For this or any of the apps inside, simply click the “Add it now” button and enter your domain name.
Note: I should point out that if you do not have an account with Google Apps you will need to open one and register your domain. There is a standard free version and a business version ($50 annually). If you like, you can test drive the business version free for 30 days, just downgrade to the standard version before the end of the 30th day.
Here is one last app I will highlight for you.
Aviary is a design suite that has some really cool tools. You can create and modify images, logos and other graphic type work. I love doing this type of stuff and wish that’s all there was to many days (dream on).
Check out the 1:40 video below that ties Microsoft Office’s Powerpoint, OffiSync and this Aviary Design Suite together, just to give you a quick peek.
Afterward, head on over to the Google Apps Marketplace when time allows and cruise around. I saw a lot of interesting apps there (too many for this post) and plan to return soon as well.

Erica, the cool stuff will always be around, it’s better that you’re busy with work right now, I do know what you mean though. I’d love to fool with gadgets all day too, but that won’t keep the light on.
