In the previous post I talked about how the personal brand has evolved, and why you should avoid the out of touch label.
In this post let’s cover some of the affects of failing to build your personal brand.
- You will have been bypassed by so many other savvy online users, leaving you far less experienced and less skilled in the application of social media techniques and strategies.
- Potential employers will pass over you, choosing individuals with a more readily available online profile and experience.
- Without a personal brand, opportunities to network and collaborate on business projects are practically nonexistent.
- Fewer individuals will reach out to you in an effort to establish contact or build relationships.
- Your hard work and achievements may go unnoticed by others who may have a need for your services.
- You will have fewer people to call upon when you need help, and you will need help at some point.
- Your lack of a support network will leave self-promotion as one of your only strategies, too much of which leads to a negative view of your image.
- Less money will be made because of your failure to connect with others.
Failing to manage your brand means that others will manage it for you by drawing their own conclusions. It is your brand and as such, cannot be left to luck and happenstance.
The benefits far outweigh the results of failing to act.
Take up your own cause and get those creative juices flowing. The management of your online brand and reputation is not to be taken lightly or overlooked. To be successful in business you must be seen in a positive and trustworthy light. The alternatives are unacceptable.

This can be a tough line to walk, letting people know what you can do while not overdoing it but yes, it is often the thing to do to avoid being overlooked.
