With more than 3 million users now, I was late to the Evernote party (started using it late 2009) but as I look back I regret having not started sooner.
Want to get things done and be more productive with an easy to use tool? Start using Evernote today.
If you are unfamiliar with this feature-rich tool I can tell you that it is worth test driving. I won’t bother posting a full review here, as there are plenty of those around already, but here are just a few of the things I use this for.
I started out using this as my personal dumping ground, which sounds just horrible huh?
But seriously, this has been one of the best uses for me as I capture all of my ideas and things I need to remember.
It places these in “notebooks” that I can access from my Smartphone or any computer anywhere using their web client or desktop app. This is like having access to your file cabinet from anywhere in the world.
I once kept a flash drive in my laptop bag with the many PDFs and all sorts of other files I use regularly. Now I just keep them in Evernote, eliminating the updating, tracking and safekeeping of the small drive.
How about those ideas that come to mind when you’re out shopping or dining? Whip out your Smartphone and send it to your notebook where it won’t be forgotten.
Here’s another nice feature; add the “Web Clipper” extension to Firefox and you’re all set to clip web pages right into Evernote. Now how cool is that?
Store Passwords – If you’re like me, you have numerous passwords for your many stops along the internet and there is little chance of remembering them all. So I store many of these in a folder (written in code) for easy access when needed.
Store Photos – Most of today’s Smartphones take really decent photos so dropping them into a place for later use is a breeze. I pull them from Evernote straight into a photo editor.
Other Image Ideas
- Take photos of you household valuables, including serial numbers.
- Create a digital business card file for the many cards you encounter
- Capture products and prices while shopping
This is only limited by your imagination. Just think of the time you can save trying to remember or locate important information.
Evernote comes with a 40MB monthly upload limit for free. If that’s not enough space you can get the 500MB version for $45 smackers annually or $5 a month. Whatever plan you go with, it’s a great deal for a really fine tool.
So is this something you could use to get things done?
If you are already using this, will you share some of your creative uses?
Stay organized and get more done!

I love Evernote and since Google stopped development of its Notebook service it has become my main tool for webclipping and storage. I have looked nat and reviewed a lot of services like this but I always come back to Evernote.
I’ve pretty much stayed with Evernote since I began, coming to use it more and more. It’s a great tool for sure. As part of a new project I’m working on, I will examine many tools for blogging so we’ll see what come down the pike in the future.
