Build Your Brand with Twitter Directories

by Jimi Jones

Twitter, one of the fastest growing social networking sites is a must for any business looking to extend it’s reach into the marketplace. With 27.3 million users in the U S alone, according to Quantcast, the micro-blogging site is definitely a place to have a presence. One look at Twitter’s growth trend says it all.

With numbers like this an orderly means of finding people and businesses became a necessity and although Twitter has a search feature, a categorized directory is a much more useful approach.

Directories provide an opportunity to list your business and give you more exposure and traffic from users of the sites. They are also useful for finding potential followers. Having a presence on a couple of these free directories is an opportunity you should take advantage of.

Below are 4 free list directories for your online brand building convenience.

One of my favorites is the newly relaunched TweetDeck Directory.

Relaunched on December 10th 2009, this directory has some great features, including a lists search and the ability to follow any Twitter lists by simply adding it to TweetDeck. This is particularly helpful if you are a part of a group and someone else has already created a list. No need to reinvent the wheel, simply add their list to your TweetDeck app where it will create it’s own column.

Twellow is a free search directory that allows you to find other Twitter users. Like most directories, users are categorized. To find people with specific interests just enter the word or term.

Wefollow is sorted by tags and as such, the heavy-hitter celebrity types seem to hold nearly all of the top spots in those tag categories. Nonetheless, it is a free service and listing your Twitter profile amongst the stars may not be such a bad thing after-all.

Similar to most other directories, My Twitter Directory is categorized and provides search features for the hundreds of categories on this site. This is one of the easier sites for setting up your profile.

Wrap up

When building a brand you want to have numerous opportunities for that brand to be seen and establishing a profile on a couple of free directories is helpful.

There are many directories online, both free and paid, but no need to appear on more than a few. As mentioned above, Twitter is huge and continues to grow so it makes sense to utilize this powerful site and register on a couple of these directories.

Use the search features of the directories to find people or topics of similar interest. Your brand will grow and become a valuable asset over time.

Thanks for listing the variety of directories, two of which I hadn’t heard of prior to visiting this article. I do recommend WeFollow and Twellow emphatically for twitter users, don’t forget to add yourself to all 10 categories on Twellow to get the most chance of being found.

So do you have to register for each of these or do you just show up in the search when you are on? These seem like a good way to get out there but are they useful for even small guys like me?

    Hi Justin.
You need to register (free) to actually create a profile but you can use the site by simply searching. Much like the phone book, you don’t have to be listed within to have access. :-)

These sites are offering a free listing however, so I would take advantage of that.
